Meet Rio!

At just 1 year old, Rio is a charming 19lbs Chihuahua & Dachshund mix with lots of love to give. This little guy may be a bit shy when you first meet him but give him a little time (and maybe a treat or two!), and you’ll see his affectionate, loyal personality shine through. He likes to hide in the blankets and when you make eye contact, he knows it's time for love. You may find him sneaking around corners just to get a look at you.

Rio is great with cats and loves other dogs. When dogs are much larger than him, he does benefit from slow introductions so that he doesn’t feel threatened. But he is playful and sweet with other dogs.

Rio is still learning the ropes when it comes to leash manners—so he’ll do best with a patient adopter who’s willing to help him build confidence and practice his walking skills. With consistency and encouragement, he’s sure to blossom into a wonderful walking buddy. His forever home should have a fenced in yard so that he can continue to work on leash walking in a safe, secure space. He is potty trained and crate trained and likes his crate so much that we hope that his forever home can provide him with access to a crate 24/7 so that he may choose to go in when he feels like it.

Because he can be timid at first, Rio would thrive in a calm home where he can feel safe and secure. He would do best without young kiddos. Once he bonds with you, he’ll be your devoted shadow, happy to curl up nearby and soak up your love.

Rio is currently being fostered in Round Rock, TX and is available for adoption in Texas and the Northeastern states.
