Say hello to Basil, a 6-month-old bundle of love with soulful amber eyes and a coat as unique as his personality — a soft cream undercoat with warm brown tips. Weighing in at just under 13 pounds, Basil may be petite in size, but he’s big on heart. He’s believed to be a Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen mix (PBGV for short), a charming breed from France known for their happy-go-lucky nature, friendly disposition, and curious spirit. Originally bred for hunting small game, PBGVs are clever, affectionate, and full of personality — just like Basil!

Basil is neutered, fully vaccinated, and doing wonderfully in his foster home. He plays well with his larger foster siblings and isn’t fazed one bit by their much larger size. While he hasn’t been around cats or small children yet, he’s shown a sweet and eager-to-please nature that suggests he’ll adapt well with proper introductions.

He’s learning potty training and quickly figured out how to use the dog door like a pro. He’s also getting the hang of crate training — in fact, he currently sleeps soundly in his crate at night when everyone is settled in for the night. Still, Basil prefers being close to his people and loves being part of the pack.

With his balanced temperament, Basil is equally happy chasing toys or curling up in your lap for a snuggle. He’s not overly hyper but enjoys playtime and companionship.
